The capital city in the Zhejiang province is the Hangzhou which is known as the Silk City. It is popular for its famous Dragon Well Tea.
Covering An area of almost 60 sqkm the lake is surrounded by hills and old temples.The Su and Baidi Causeways divide the lake in 5 sections namely the Outer lake (Wai Hu) , the North Inner lake (Beili Hu) , the west inner lake(Xili Hu) , the south lake (Xiaonan Hu) and lake yeu ( yue hu). One of the lake’s important attraction is the Su causeway built in 1089 which links the north and south banks. It is a home for many fine and old bridges , like the Broken Bridge which links the Baidi causeway to the shore. Other highlights are the Pavillon of the Autumn Moon, the Pavillon of the Cranes , Isle of the Hill of Solitude ,Little Paradise Island, Bridge of the Nine Arches and the Bay of Flowers.
HOME OF THE GENERAL : YUE FEI TEMPLE
In 1221 this old temple was build in the honor of the much reversed General Yue Fei .The temple is located at the northern end of the Su causeway. The visit to this temple includes a statue of Yue Fie in the temple Hall, a richly decorated ceiling with cranes which symbols immortiality. The most valuable treasure is a stone celestial globe dating from time of five dynasties(907-960).
A City of Pretty Pagodas: Liuhe, Leifeng, and Baochu
The exquisite 60m high Pagoda of the six haramonies which is on the north bank of the river Qiantong is worth visiting. The former Pagoda dated from 970 AD is belived to have been 150m tall and served as the light house. In 1899, the original ancient brick core was retained and covered in wood cladding the represent structure was build. Also visit the Leifeng, and Baochu Pagado.
Lingyin Temple and The Peak that Flew from Afar
Also known as the temple of the Soul’s Retreat,the Lingyin temple dated from 326 BC is one of the China’s famous Buddist Monasteries.The attractions include the Hall of the Celestial /king, Sumptuous Hall of the Great Herowhich is 34m high , Made from the 24 pieces of camphor wood is a 20m tall Buddha statue. The peak that Flew from Afar is a mountain riddled with numerous caves n 380 Buddha statues dating from the 10th century.
Longjing Tea and the Dragon Well
The famous local longjing tea , is named after the small village Longjing which is 3km southwest to the west lake. The highlight of the visit is many plantations of traditional teas at source. Tours in one of the tea factories, the China National tea Museum.
